DAY 2 RICHMOND NIGHT MARKET
Yesterday my lovely homegirl Frieda (she’s in Split Second time too…Homegirl on the left…see below) took me to the RICHMOND SUMMER NIGHT MARKET. It was a nice spot to stroll around – suggest that you get there early if you don’t want to deal with the wave of hungry people that will arrive a little later in the night when everything else is closed. The atmosphere is great, but there isn’t really much to buy except Korean Socks, iPhone covers and FOOD! The market is open from 7-12 midnight.
All pictures were taken by iPhone through the LOMO filter on CAMERA BAG APP
DAY 1: On the road again…
So here I am in beautiful British Columbia en route toward Singapore to perform with Paul T for HENNESSY WORLD STAGE June 26. 2009 in Singapore. I grew up in Vancouver so I feel a nice nostalgic comfort being back here and kicking it with my friends that knew me back in the day me when I was “Hiphop May” breakdancing, tagging BC transit and rocking size 40 wide leg jeans while hanging out at Johnny Z’s in Station Square (Holler if you hear me arcade gangsters!) LOL. I’m in transitory times. So much so I feel like the video game Zelda when you has been battling night creatures and finally reach that friendly town where you can run around to talk to various village folk and gather clues and strength for the journey ahead. Maybe purgatory? Jacobs Ladder without the extreme creepiness? Either way, I thought I’d give you pieces of the journey via. my Indonesian iPhone (THANKS BERNIE! You’re the best!) Incidentally I’m loving the iPhone apps QUAD CAMERA and CAMERA BAG!! Using an iPhone as a Helga camera is bomb.
It’s always so beautiful landing in Vancouver. I’ve gotten so used to plane trips that they feel more like bus rides now. Is that a good thing? I don’t know…but most time I’ll start a flight with a good book and not even notice the take off or landing. I know it’s time to go when the dude besides me starts pushing by to get to his bags before the seatbelt sign is off. Humans are always in such a rush.
I honestly don’t know how the city of Vancouver is going to accomodate the 2010 Winter Olympic influx of people. As it stands, it’s impossible to get anywhere without getting trapped in gridlock traffic. The beautiful mountain views tend to quell my road rage.
Whenever I’m in town, I head to see my gyals at HAPPA IZAKAYA One of my bestest homegirls MAAJI ISOBE (she’s the girl to my right in the SPLIT SECOND TIME video) manages this Japanese Tapas / drinking establishment. I’m always recommending the spot the homeboys when they visit Vancouver…all the girls that work here are beautiful! I’ll be at the bar talking to Jessie and nursing some UMESHU.
My mama is back from Singapore and she is the best cook in the world!!! I know everyone thinks that of their moms…but really she is. (Wanna fight about it?) My favorite food in the whole wide world is HAINANESE CHICKEN RICE which is a dish Singapore is famous for! Oooo…I’m eating good in Vancouver!
I ended today at Ambleside Beach. I used to come here when I was in grade school to write poetry and draw pictures. In highschool we had bonfires and drank beer and liquor we stole from our parents stashes. Returning back here, I realize so much has changed and nothing has changed at all. I still miss the Pacific Ocean and she still misses me. Even so, in the months to come everything is going to move very quickly – between 2 new albums, a venture into Hollywood and a new corporate sponsorships. Hustle hustle everyone…but never forget to take the time for family and friends to remember where you came from. Leftcoast recollecting and realizing where I’m at. My path is blessed. One Love.

So happy that you left …. So sad that you’re gone.
I’ll see you if I make it there.
