One of my best homegirls Frieda came to visit me in L.A. over the Halloween weekend. She wanted to get some sun and come see me living my dream that I had started 9 years ago.
We started the festivities off at BISTRO KA, a great Japanese joint in Topanga Mall. P TRIX and crew spin there every Thrusday night so you know the musical rotation was top notch! Superb inverted California rolls with toasted almonds consumed to the soundtrack of Things Fall Apart and Devil’s Pie is my idea of great ambiance.
Long story short, I had a crappy birthday in April of this year. Frieda remembered, and spontaneously decided that we should celebrate it at Bistro Ka October 29! She bought the best bottle of Sake on the menu (ps: Sake is half price at Bistro Ko on Thrusdays!) and ordered a cake and the rest was history. This meant the world to me.
As I venture deeper into the thicket of the music industry and life hustles in general, I’m learning more and more how essential true friends are. Entourages aside, having that go-to base of people that have known you since day 1 helps create a strong foundation for growth in a world dripping with swill and B.S. The appearance of an old friend’s knowing smile is truly the milestone that marks how far we’ve come both in business and as a people. I hope everyone out there has friends as wonderful as mine. It makes the journey that much more sweet.
